Department Library Title Assistant Librarian (Temporary, Part‑time) Approximate Starting Date Spring 2026 Overview Cal Poly Maritime Academy Library invites applications for a pool of part‑time librarians as needed. The role supports instruction, reference services, outreach events, and online resource creation and maintenance. Responsibilities Support library instruction and teach workshops. Provide reference services through in‑person, email, chat, and Zoom. Represent the library at campus‑wide outreach events. Create and update online resources, including webpages, guides, and tutorials. Required Qualifications MLS/MLIS from an ALA‑accredited program or equivalent institution by the time of appointment. Experience providing reference, instruction, or outreach services to a diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collegially in a team setting. Demonstrated competency with computer applications and ability to learn new software. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact sensitively and effectively in a multi‑cultural environment. Desirable Qualifications Three or more years of relevant experience. Experience in or potential for developing and leading engaging library‑related instruction sessions. Experience in promoting library‑related programs. Experience working in an academic library. Salary and Compensation Salary commensurate with education, qualifications, and experience. Full‑time classification salary range for the position is $6,288–$7,658 per month. Anticipated pro‑rated monthly hiring range based on 10–20 hours per week and experience is $1,572–$3,144. Physical and Environmental Conditions The typical classroom and office environment is in a two‑story building with elevator access. Eligibility to Work Applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire. A background check (including criminal records) is required prior to employment.
