We are a civil litigation firm seeking an Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of litigation experience to join our team. This role entails handling substantive litigation tasks independently, including written discovery, taking and defending depositions, reviewing records, appearing at court hearings, attending mediations and other related matters. Applicants with experience in insurance defense are preferred.

The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who takes ownership of assignments, manages litigation deadlines effectively and is familiar with billing practices and time entry requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Manage caseload of insurance defense matters throughout various stages of litigation
• Independently handle written discovery, including drafting responses and propounding strategic discovery
• Take and defend depositions of parties, percipient witnesses and experts
• Draft and argue substantive motions, oppositions and replies, including demurrers, discovery motions and summary judgment motions
• Attend mediations and court proceedings
• Evaluate liability and damages, including review and analysis of medical and billing records
• Prepare clear, strategic reports to insurance carriers addressing liability, exposure and status updates
• Manage litigation deadlines and billing requirements

Qualifications:

• Active member of the California Bar
• 3–5 years of civil litigation experience required
• Familiarity with litigation guidelines
• Experience handling written discovery, depositions, court appearances and motion practice with limited supervision
• Strong legal writing and analytical skills
• Self-starter with strong work ethic and a practical, solutions-oriented mindset
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Organized, responsive and able to manage multiple deadlines effectively
• Familiarity with billing practices and time entry

Salary range: $110,000 – $140,000, depending on experience
