About Upper Edge Technology

Upper Edge Technology (UET) serves K–12 schools nationwide by providing device repair, parts sourcing, and lifecycle solutions for student technology. The company operates in a fast-moving, service-driven environment where operational efficiency and financial clarity are critical to continued growth.

UET values accountability, development, and continuous improvement. The finance function plays a central role in ensuring the business operates with discipline, visibility, and confidence.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a proven, detail-oriented, and business-minded Controller who can step into a leadership role and immediately bring structure, ownership, and insight to the organization.

This role is ideal for someone who has already operated at a high level within accounting/finance and is ready to take ownership of both the technical and strategic aspects of the function.

The right candidate will:

  • Operate with confidence and independence, not requiring constant oversight
  • Bring solutions and insights, not just reports
  • Value accuracy, consistency, and follow-through over speed or shortcuts
  • Be comfortable working across finance, HR, and operational functions
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with leadership

If you are someone who:

  • Ensures details are correct the first time
  • Understands how financial data connects to business performance
  • Can identify issues before they become problems
  • Is comfortable owning both execution and decision support
  • Takes pride in building clean, reliable systems

We want to talk to you.

This is not simply an accounting role. It is a foundational leadership position with direct impact on how the business operates and grows.

The Controller serves as a key partner to leadership and is responsible for owning the financial function while supporting operational alignment across the business.

This role oversees accounting processes, budgeting, reporting, and financial analysis while also supporting related functions such as HR oversight and operational coordination.

This position requires both:

  • Technical excellence in accounting and finance
  • The ability to translate data into meaningful business insight

Responsibilities include:

  • Mentor and develop existing team members, elevating performance, building capability, and supporting long-term growth
  • Own monthly and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness
  • Lead the company-wide budgeting process in partnership with department leaders
  • Monitor cash flow and provide proactive visibility into financial position and planning needs
  • Deliver both standard and ad hoc reporting to support leadership decision-making
  • Translate financial data into clear insights and actionable recommendations
  • Support HR-related financial decisions, including compensation, training investments, and resource planning
  • Review and validate financial data, dashboards, and reporting systems for accuracy and completeness
  • Identify and implement process improvements across finance and operations to increase efficiency and consistency

Qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in a Controller or similar financial leadership role
  • Proven experience owning full-cycle accounting processes (monthly close, reporting, etc.)
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Demonstrated ability to translate financial data into business insights and recommendations
  • Experience working cross-functionally with leadership and non-finance teams
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to build and maintain structured, repeatable financial processes
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive financial information
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal oversight
