Job Description

Overview Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) invites a qualified individual to serve as the State’s nongame terrestrial species conservation specialist. This position directs efforts to manage the state’s nongame terrestrial species of concern, manages and implements conservation programs within CPW and with other agencies, monitors populations, conducts research, and provides state‑wide expert guidance. Responsibilities

• Formulates and recommends statewide directives, regulations, and strategies for the terrestrial species conservation program.
• Serves as principal liaison between Terrestrial Branch and other CPW Branches, developing narratives, progress reports, and adaptive management plans.
• Compiles and analyzes technical data, leads species status assessments, and represents CPW on federal recovery teams.
• Develops and evaluates conservation planning standards, guides and reviews unit‑level work plans, and recommends resource reallocations.
• Represents CPW at statewide and regional levels as a range‑wide terrestrial species expert.

Minimum Qualifications

• Eight (8) years of relevant experience in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Biology, Ecology, Zoology/Animal Sciences or a related occupation.
• OR equivalent education and experience totaling eight (8) years.

Preferred Qualifications Current or former State experience. Current or former Colorado Parks and Wildlife experience. Strong analytical reasoning. Experience in interstate and intrastate collaborations. Participation in working groups. Professional experience writing management and conservation plans. Field ecology expertise. Focus on management and conservation of birds and small mammals. Required Competencies Field biology experience. Experience supervising seasonal and volunteer field crew. Organizational and time‑management skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Multi‑tasking skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Suite. Conditions of Employment State of Colorado residency required at the time of application. Primarily performed from a home office; occasional visits to the field office. Ongoing travel for meetings, training, and projects (one to two times per month). Compliance with DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive if a state vehicle is required.
