JOB SUMMARY

The Pipe Welders are responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality and in a professional manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Have a working knowledge and understanding of welding standards, such as Tech-Pub-278, Tech-Pub-248, MIL-STD-1689 and proper joint designs IAW MIL-STD-22D
  • Have the ability to weld all types of materials, to tig and stick, weld plate, pipe including piping joints such as sockets, butts,E.B rings, backing rings and open butts
  • Have experience with various metals such as cuni, monel, stainless steel, alum and carbon steel/cromoly
  • Be able to set up and operate welding machines such as SYNCHROWAVE 250 and POWCON ST-300
  • Be able to trouble shoot problems with tig lines and machines
  • Be able to weld with the use of a mag-base mirror for tig and stick
  • Have the ability to utilize Metro PCP 912-04 for P-I piping
  • The Pipe Welder is required to certify to IAW GTAW and SMAW procedures and have the ability to produce first pass yield when welding on any piping system, regardless of the material type or joint design.
  • The Pipe Welder is also responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality, in a professional manner
  • Assure that tank/ compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met. (Example: ventilation, lighting, safety equipment etc.)
  • Assure that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written. (Example: fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.)
  • Assure that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
  • Assure that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work-related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc.)
  • Assure that Torch Safety Procedures, including testing, are utilized for all torch work.
  • Assure that fire watches are assigned and maintained in the proper position.
  • Assure that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical / mechanical repairs and etc.)
  • Assure that you and personnel working under your direction are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times.
  • Assure that job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
  • Assure that a 30-minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, squatting, pushing and pulling can be expected.
  • Long periods of standing and walking may also be expected in this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Exposure to typical manufacturing areas is required and will require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility to move within plant/area as assigned.
  • Exposure to climate conditions must be able to withstand periods of heat and cold.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a first-class pipe fitter in the ship repair industry.
  • Must have all tools necessary to accomplish pipe welding, i.e., electrode holder, gloves, and weld shield.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., work aboard marine vessels, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined
  • spaces, and wear personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to weld certify IAW Mil-Std-248 in the following metal groups:
  • CUNI, buttweld and socket weld
  • Stainless, buttweld and socket weld
  • Steel, buttweld and socket weld
  • Must have a working knowledge of pipe joint design IAW Mil-Std 22D
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Candidates must have verifiable employment history in similar positions.
  • Candidates must have a clean background to be considered for employment.
  • Visual Requirements: Must be able to pass a Standard Jaeger's Test chart for near vision acuity reading J1 letters or equivalent with or without corrective aids and pass a color vision test using Ishihara's Tests for Color Deficiency.

Pay: $50/hr
