Job Description

Help Patients Navigate Their Surgical Journey

At OrthoVirginia, we help people move better, feel better, and get back to the activities they love. As Virginia's largest orthopedic specialty practice, our Surgery Schedulers play a critical role in ensuring patients receive a seamless experience from scheduling through surgery.

We're looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Surgery Scheduler who thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment. In this role, you'll partner with physicians, patients, surgery centers, hospitals, and insurance providers to coordinate surgical procedures while ensuring every detail is in place for a successful patient experience.

What You'll Do

As a Surgery Scheduler, you'll help ensure every surgical patient is prepared and supported by:

  • Coordinating inpatient and outpatient surgeries, procedures, diagnostic testing, and follow-up care.
  • Scheduling procedures with hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and other healthcare facilities.
  • Verifying insurance eligibility, obtaining prior authorizations, and coordinating required pre-certifications.
  • Collaborating with physicians, clinical staff, and surgical facilities to ensure all documentation, equipment, and surgical requirements are completed.
  • Educating patients on surgical scheduling, pre-admission requirements, pre-operative testing, and post-operative instructions.
  • Communicating scheduling updates and serving as a primary point of contact for patients throughout the surgical process.
  • Coordinating physician orders, prescriptions, laboratory testing, and other pre-operative requirements.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and supporting documentation for coding, billing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Working closely with providers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure an organized, efficient surgical scheduling process.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who enjoys coordinating complex details, solving problems, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Successful candidates will typically have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in surgery scheduling, patient scheduling, medical office administration, or healthcare coordination.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology; surgical terminology and orthopedic experience are a plus.
  • Experience verifying insurance eligibility, obtaining prior authorizations, and coordinating healthcare services.
  • Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently, think critically, and resolve issues with minimal supervision.

Compensation Range for this position:

$17.98 - $26.97

Compensation for this role will be based on several factors, including the candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, certifications, geography/market, and internal equity considerations.
